An important part of our school is the outdoor play spaces where children not only stretch their muscles, but also practice social skills. As our campus continues to transform this year, we have news about future plans for these kid-friendly areas, according to our President.
A subcommittee of the Board’s Campus & Facilities Committee has been established to review our play spaces during the 2016-17 school year and develop an outside space master plan. While the master plan is still in progress, we have two existing and/or planned play areas for student to enjoy.
The climbing and slide structure that was relocated near the kindergarten classrooms was intended to be used temporarily until construction was complete. Due to popular request from both teachers and students, we have decided to keep this arrangement permanently. It offers a compact play area ideally located near kindergarten and preschool classes.
With construction coming to a close, we will soon proceed with installing sod on the large dirt lot next to the Center until a new playground can be built during summer 2017. This will minimize the disruption to school activities and allow us several months to develop an exciting plan for best use of this space. We have already consulted with Lower School teachers to better understand their needs as to the features and materials that are best suited for the new design.
Lastly, the preschool playground continues to be a right-sized play space for our youngest students. It features a climbing wall, water play area, swing, slide and more.
Thank you for your patience this year as we work to create a campus where students can best learn and play!
